    born at Curraghchase. They were uncles of the late Lord Monteagle of Brandon, and Cappagh(Foynes). These belonged to the aristocracy. Aubrey wrote "A ballad of Athlone", and other very famous poems.
    Mat Dufrig was native of Shangolden was self educated in prison. He had a great appreciation of writing and such like.
    Mat was a great traveller and he and a friend travelled on foot through France.
    He used to compose poetry. One of his works is "The Jessamine that Blooms in Shangolden" of which I have written five stanzas on the opposite page. He could also make impromptu verse.
