    national schools are formed & we get free education we don't appreciate it.
    It is characteristic of the Irish that if you try to stifle their desire you only increase it. The Irish are easily led but hard to be driven. The teacher in those old schools was called a pedagogue & owned no house of his own but was like a pedlar a week in one Scholars house another week in the next & so on.
    The worthy pedagogue selected a site near a bank (a bank) or a mound and all the natives gathered with spades and shovels. Soon a place was dug & a wall was built to the front and a door & a window left in it. Blocks of timber were placed over it & rushes to keep the rain from getting in.
    In Ben Cotters field about a mile from here one was built and Mr. Morge was the teacher. He was paid by the scholars & each had to bring a sod of
