- The houses long ago, were made of mud with a zink roof, and sometimes roofs of rushes got in the bogs. These old houses had a bed in the kitch called a settle bed. It was placed by the back wall of the house. In some of these old houses there was a fire in the middle of the mud floor. The chimney was made of stone and in the poorer houses of mud. The floors were mostly all made of mud and some of them were made of paving stones.
