- Long ago the houses were made of mud and rushes. Some of them had a timber chimney, and more of them had none.
The people had a coop of hens always inside, and a stick up over the door for the cock. When the calves were born, they were carried into the kitchen, and left there for three days. Some people had a couple of cows, inside in the kitchen. Nearly every house had a halfdoor. They are in some houses yet, and some people have the hens coop, and use it as a dresser.- Collector
