  1. Starch Making.
    Long ago people used to make starch out of potatoes. This is how it was done. A potato was first cut up very small and then it was put into a strainer and cold water was poured through it into some other vessel. This water washed the starch off the potato and when it was allowed to lodge the starch remained in the bottom of the vessel.
