    swallows fly low it indicates that there is a a depressions overhead. When they fly high it foretells fine weather. We may expect bad weather when crows fly high and caw more than usual.
    There is a very old tradition explaining the yellow bill of the blackbird. It is said that one day the blackbird saw the magpie burying something in a field. He as very curious and at once tried to find out what he was doing. At last the magpie told him that it was gold. He then told the blackbird to fly to a hollow tree which he would show him and to go into it, and then to continue as far as he could go along a passage which he would see. After some time hw would come to a room full of silver, but the magpie said he was not to touch any of this or any of the gold he would find in next room. In the third room he would find a great king, and, said the magpie, "if you ask him for what you wish he will give you all" The blackbird followed the magpies directions at once. On arriving in the room filled with gold his good intentions deserted him and he tried to seize all the gold he could carry. Suddenly a black
