    Oh sweet Rathkeale, oh place beloved,
    Thy charm and beauty still I feel,
    Though years have rolled since last I viewed,
    My childhood's home beside the Deel.

    Sweet winding Deel how oft I've strayed,
    Beside thy rippling waters bright,
    How oft with fishing rod essayed,
    To catch the trout that would not bite.
    3.
    No pen could paint a lovelier spot,
    Green wood and river, vale and hill,
    Tho, far away I've ne'er forgot
    And oft in dreams I see it still.

    When spring waved her magic,
    Wand o'er Castle Matrix's Meadow green,
    When primrose stars strewed all the land,
