- Before the mill in Askeaton started burning lime there was a lime kiln in Stewick. It belonged to Mr. John O'Shaughnessy. There was a place long side the kiln where they got stones to make the lime. He had a man working with him that knew everything about it. He had to get some coal to burn in the kiln. It is about thirty feet in height. Since the mill in Askeaton started working he is not burning any lime.
