  1. Oscar was the son of Oisín. All the Fianna loved him greatly, and did their best to spoil him. But Oscar was too good to be easily spoiled, and Diarmuid O'Duibhne, who was his special friend, no doubt prevented the harm being too serious, Diarmuid taught him feats of arms, and of skill and of chess playing, and he grew up to be a great warrior. He was very fond of fighting.
All through his life, he kept a joyful heart and the boyishness which made him when a little lad, the darling of the Fianna. He was killed at the battle of Gabhra. There on the battle field, with his broken shield beside him, and the red life blood pouring from his wounds, Oisín his father found him.
