  1. Long ago there lived a poet in Ballysheedy whose name was John Hannon. He was a beggar who roamed about from place to place. He was never called any name except "Old Hannon the Poet." He was a very reckless poet who roamed about for days drunk. At Election times he always composed songs about the winning party and dispraised the unsuccessful party. He was paid for his poetry by getting porter from the winning party. He composed his poetry when he was drunk. He [? walked] with a Dublin poet every year at the fairs.
