- In olden times people did not begin to wear boots until they were fourteen years of age. Long ago the people used never wear boots or shoes, unless in the frosty weather. The boys, and girls nowadays go barefooted in the Summer.
The water for washing the feet is thrown out. Before throwing it out some people put a cinders in the water. On "Poor Souls" night the feet water is never thrown out. The old people say that if you threw out the water you would hit some "poor soul" in the face with the water. The water is thrown out in the morning.
