    There are numerous forts in my district, some of them are known as Raths and more are known as Forts.

    and it is said to be a fatal error to remove or cut a piece off the whitethorns which are to be found growing in every fort. Tradition tells us that the person who interferes in such manner will either suffer a loss in his family or else a serious loss on his farm, but as long as it falls down rotten it is no harm.
    There was an old fort down in Killaloe which belonged to a man named Bourke. One day a poor bachelor was gathering sticks and he went to a fort where he saw some fine rotten sticks. He went in and filled his bag. After filling his bag he left to come home. He was just leaving when he
