He soon saw a stone in the middle of the river and it was about thirteen feet from each side. He jumped on to the rock and from the rock to the other side. When the horsemen saw the river in flood they knew that the horses would not be able to cross so they gave up following him and so he won the race. The distance from Keeper to the river is about seven miles and he did it in about one hour.
