    The following is a story told about Kennedy's fort in Knockahorna. As a man named Fanning was passing the fort late one night, a man stepped out of the fort carrying a small table. He placed the table on the road before Fanning and said "Play a game of cards." Fanning said he would. As the game progressed a card dropped off the table. Fanning stooped to pick it up, and as he was picking up the card he saw that the man had a cloven hoof. He got frightened and ran away. As he was crossing a stream on the road he blessed himself with the water. He then looked back and saw the man enter the fort in a flash of fire.
