- There is festival customs every year in my district such as following the wren and gathering money and then buying sweets with it. On Shrove Tuesday making pan-cakes and Chalk Sunday rubbing chalk to bacholer backs & on May Day stealing the cream of another man's milk & on St John's lighting bon-fires & their is an old Rhyme connected with Christmas
Christmas is coming the geese are fat
Will you please put a penny in the old man's hat
If you have not a penny a halfpenny will do
If you have not a halfpenny may God bless you
