  1. Local Landlords
    The following people, at one time owned large tracts of land in this district, and who had tenants under them. Lloyd, La Fouche, Sheppard, Medlin, Gillespie, and Townshend.
    Mr Horace Lloyd, was landlord of Longford Frisco, Gurteen, and Knocknavogga. La Fouche was landlord of Clonakenny and Derrylahan.
    Sheppard was landlord of Bonagurthbane and Shanacloon
    Medlin was landlord of Summerhill and Borrisnoe
    Gillespie was landlord of Oldcastle and Bournea; he was a Protestant clergyman
    Townshend was landlord of Montore
    The Lloyds had most land and tenants it is said that the first of them came with Cromwell. Many years ago these people were looked on as bad landlords and they had many people evicted to make a large cattle ranch. It is said that at one period of the land war one of these Lloyd's was fired at and wounded and that
