   thing worth noting is that for the past few fears a great many woodcock remain with us the whole year round, their nests which are made on the ground have been found in the district.
   The rook, wood pigeon, hawk and sometimes the crane build their nests in tall trees, while the magpie, blackbird and thrush usually choose thick hawthorns; the jackdaw builds in chimneys or in holes high up in he ruins of old houses; the robin finches and wren build their nests in low thick bushes or clumps of briars; the wagtail and tomtit build in holes in walls; the starling chooses a hole in the trunk of a tree, under the eve of a house or in a wall for a nesting-place, the waterhen snipe and duck build in marshy spots always near a stream, while the plover and curlew select dry moors. The corncrake always lays its eggs in a meadow and does not go to much trouble making a nest; the swallow always builds its nest in the rafters of our out-houses; no boy in this school ever found an owl's nest, neighter did any of the find a young cuckoo
