- There was a Priest one time who had a man by the name of Jack working. One day the maid had a duck cooked for dinner and left on the plate. Jack came in and stole one leg of the duck. The maid looked every place for the leg and failing to find it she had to bring the duck to the Priest with one leg. The Priest looked for the leg and said there was nobody but Jack to take it, so he questioned him but Jack said the duck had only one leg. Next day Jack was driving the Priest to a sick call and he saw a lot of ducks near a pond standing on one leg. "Now," said Jack, "didn't I tell you the ducks had only one leg." "I'll see," said the priest, so he got down and hushed the ducks, and all of them put down the other leg. "Now," said the priest "hasn't a duck two legs." "Well why didn't you hush the duck on your plate and she would put down the other leg."
