The building known as the '' Ardfinnan Woollen Mills'' was formerly a flour mill.
Mr John Mulcahy, the present owner's father converted it into a woolen mill in the year 1869. Since then they have been adding to it, practically every year. The building was destroyed by fire in 1881 , but was rebuilt later, It is considered one of the finest of its kind in Ireland It gives employment to 150 workers and its output is 2,500 yards of fine grade suitings per week. the village is electrically lighted in the Winter time by the Woollen Mills Power House.
