- (continued from previous page)large bull appeared and they ran with fright. This Moat is supposed to be built by the fairies. One night a man was passing it and he heard the fairies singing a song. This man had a hump on his back. He began singing the same song and added a new bit to it.
When the fairies heard this they were very pleased with it and took off his hump. There was another man named Jack Maddon who also had a hump. When he saw this he thought that his hump would also be removed if he added another bit to the song. But instead of getting his hump removed he got the other man's hump on too. When the fairies had the hump on him they sang this song.
" Here's to Jack Madden
Your word is so badden,
And here's two humps,
for auld Madden.
