- There is a story told that one day long ago when Fionn Mac Cumhaill was hunting on the Slieve-na-Muc Hills he was attacked by a huge wild boar. He chased the animal along the top of these hills. Just near the Rock of Thorobh he made a stroke of his sword at the wild pig but missed him and hit the Rock instead and split in two. He then chased the boar through the Glen of Aherlow and killed him at a place called Rathdermot about a mile from the village of Bansha. It is said that the boar's grave can be seen there at the present day.
