- (continued from previous page)Smiths are always noted for their strength and courage. About 15 years ago it was the custom locally, to take a 1/2 pt of whiskey to the smith, when a colt was to be shod for the first time.
In Clonganhue in the parish of Cappawhite there was a forge and tradition tells us that Sarsfield whod his horse there going to Ballineety. Pikes were also made there for the Rising of 1867. The forge was searched by the English soldiers shortly afterwards.
