- A poor blind man went to a gentleman's house to beg. The gentleman was a Protestant, and forbade any Catholic to come near his gate.
When the poor blind man approached the gate, the gentleman asked "What religion have you?" "I am a Catholic and proud of it, thank you" said the poor blind man. "Well if you are you dare not enter this place." "Don't you see what is written on the gate?" "I don't" said the blind man what is it.
The gatekeeper said, there is a notice on this gate, on which is written "No Catholics may enter here."
"Well" said the blind man
"The man who wrote it
He wrote it well,
The same is written
On the gates of Hell."- Informant
