The minister went home determined not to lose his horse ,or his twenty pounds and gave strict warning to his two men to mind the horse during the night.They sat one at each side of the horse so that nobody could take him,without they knowing it.
That night Jack dressed up as a pedlar,his clothes torn,his hair coming out through his hat and in each of the pockets of his outside coat ,he carried two quarts of whiskey.Right enough there were tweo men minding the horse,so jack slipped into the pig's cabin.
where there was a sow about to have a litter of bonhams .He gave the sow a "dig of his elbow"in order to attract the attention of the pair who were minding the horse in the next cabin.The sow gave a grunt and one of them left the horse to see that the sow was alright.He spotted the bottle of whiskey ,and took it out of Jack's pocket called his companion and they drank the contents of the bottle.They concluded the pedlar was worn out from travelling,so they did not disturb him.Jack of course pretended he was(continues on next page)- Informant
