    If there is a young unmarried woman of about twenty five years in any part of the parish who has the name of money some young man will send a friend of hers to her house to ask her people if he would get her in marriage. If it is an old person ho is living with her in the house especially an old woman she will ask the person who will come if he has a good way of living how many cows he has and so forth.
    Then if the man gets any encouragement she will ask how much of a fortune he want and after a few days they will meet in some public-house and it is there they come to an agreement.
    The next day they go to the nearest town to draw up writings and agree as to how much the old people will keep for themselves.
    The following night they go to the girl's house to "prick the gander". They invite some of the neighbours to the party and they generally have a very enjoyable night. Those late years the people have the "pricking of the gander" and the wedding the same night.
    The dance goes on and the drink goes round and the "straw boys" come in. They are all dressed up, some having straw hats and old dresses and others having masks on their faces. They stay dancing for a while and then go home.
    The next day the man and woman get married and some years ago the people with horses and side-cars use to race
