    they have holly branches decorated with ribbons or streamers of coloured paper -they blacken their faces or wear eye fiddles so that they will not be recognized ;turn their coats inside out or put on girl's clothes they carry mouth organs ,concertinas or or other musical instruments and go in crowds through the Streets or out the country on bicycles or in lories.
    They call at almost every house and every where they get money or food.When they come to the door they play sing or dance.
    Some of them sing the following rhyme"The wren ,the wren ,the king of wild birds .St.Stephens day he was caught in the furze .Although he was small, ,his family was great .Rise up landlady and give us a treat."Up with the kettle and down with the pan .Give us our answer and let us be gone.
    The man of the house is a decent man and into the house we carried the wren."Up with the kettle and down with the pan .Give us our answer and let us be gone".
