  1. By the dark lake a ramble I take
    Returning from fair Ennistymon
A visit I pay to a friend on the way,
Whose mansion I mean for to rhy m on.
It was Connellan's treat which was cordial and neat
That my system was soon put in order
And after the fare to his fields we repair
To view his domains to the order
2 His meadows are glowing and his pastures are flowing
    With herbage and choice vegetation.
And crops that abound in such arable ground
    Give token of sound cultivation
The garden of Lee and all that we see
    Combine with this lovely plantation
And invite us to pay to so rich a display
The mead of our just approbation.
3 Here nature bestowed her gift that she glowed
On hill and on dale and on fountain
The meads and the green are emerald seen
So rare in the heart of a mountain.
Yet art was required to make them admired
And render access to their beauty
Till Connellan came with his skill to reclaim,
    To render the lawful duty.
