When the people used to eat a piece of oatmeal cake they used to faint when they would have it eaten. The work in the roads relieved the famine. Five were found dead about a mile from the town of Miltown in the Ballard road. - In the famine year the Atlantic Hotel in Spanish Point was full of poor people who were called paupers; also Aranview in Fintra was full of them.
There was a fever Hospital in Parknalassa in the Mullagh road in Miltown Malbay where Mr. Hanrahan now lives.
