- It has been told by older people that in the days of St Senan who lived in Scattery Island out side Kilrush on the coast of the Shannon there was a terrible serpent who was so long as to encircle the island and was a danger to everyone in the locality
St Senan banished him and ordered him to live in the lake of Doolough, Coore, and he would have to live on a trout and a half per day
Persons living in the locality say that a half trout has often been seen floating on the lake.
A cow called the Gloscainagh or fairy cow has been spoken of as a wonderful cow to milk. It was in about the year 540 on the coast of Donegal the fairy cow was first seen and it was able to fill any bucket put under her
