- About one hundred years ago a great scarcity of food occured in Ireland. The people of this district found it hard to live and some of them almost died with hunger. All the potatoes began to rot and when a person would go out to dig them he could not get a bucketfull in half a day. The potatoes were that bad that they could not be eaten.Collected by:
