The cow is kept in a byre during the winter and is fed with hay and turnips, in the summer she is let out in the fields but she is brought in night and morning to be milked. Before calving she is fed with a bran mash, her udder is cleaned before milking and the milker when finished dips his thumb in the milk and makes the sign of the cross on the cows side. When you are driving her you say on on chee.
