- There is a monument erected outside Drogheda called the Obelisk. This Monument was erected in honour of a famous English Soldier whose name was General Schomberg. To him the English owed the victory but he was killed at the moment of his triumph. The Monument was built on a rock that was fifty or sixty feet in height. Every year the Orangemen came to celebrate the victory of the Battle of the Boyne much to the annoyance of the Irish people. The day(continues on next page)
