   Daniel O'Connell was once rushing through the streets of Dublin to attend some important meeting. A young street urchin barred his way asking for alms. Oh said O'Connell I haven't time now but the next time I meet you I will give you something. All right sir said the youth darting off. A few blocks further on the same youth stood before him. You sir said he. O'Connell at once saw the cleaness of the youth gave him a shilling calling him a true son of Dan O'Connell.

   Garrett Reilly works on the estate of a lady named Mrs Fowler. Last year one of Garrett's daughters got married and Mrs Fowler graciously attended the wedding and breakfast.
   The bride displayed her presents - among which were a pair of hansdome lamps - to her distinguished guest.
   Reilly said she had yon lamps like that when you got married?
   "No maam" said he when I was married it was a rush meaning of course a rushlight.
