    The old people will still tell you that the English Government wanted the famine in Ireland as the population at that time was between eight and nine million and that the Irish were about to strike a blow at our enemy, England.
    That blow was struck in 1916 when Padraig Pearse proclaimed the republic in 1916 Ireland will never again experience such suffering
