Drumhirkan - The hazel hill. - The names of the fields around my home Clonberton, Drumconrath are as follows:
"The Sandfield" is so called because the people used to get sand in it in former years.
"The Moundfield" got its name from a mound that is on its summit.
"Matthews Hill " is so called because in former years the man who owned it was called "Matthew Crinnon".
"The River Field" got its name from a river that flows through it.
"Sruthain Bhaile" got its name from a little town that was in it long ago.
"Madam's Field" got its name from an old Lady that lived in it long ago. - There is a field around my house in Newstone, Drumconrath called the Poll Mór. It is called that because there is a big pool of water in the middle of it.
"Gallows Hill".It is called that because there is a tree in the middle of the field(continues on next page)- Collector
