- (continued from previous page)Chapel street Oldcastle. The old Work-house was build in the year 1843. It was used as a British internment camp for Germans, from 1914 t0 1918.
During their time there one of the prisoners was shot in the act of finishing a Tunnel by which all the prisoners were to escape.
When the great War was over the prisoners were released, after which the building remained vacant up to the present years.
Some years ago some boys were playing hand ball against the gable end of the Work-house, my brother was one of them.
During the game, one of the players named Web Gibney, saw a headless man walking through the gable window of the building, before that happened my brother heard a tramping noise, but saw nothing.
At the same place the following happened, a boy named Mattie Colgan saw a little man with a gun, sitting in the same window, dressed in a(continues on next page)- Collector
