- (continued from previous page)left- Matt Farrells - right Biddy Scott's shop and Tailor Colgans. A man named Mat Guinness hada Turner's shop and Lukey Brown had a house on the right hand side of this road also. The only traces remaining are a stone with iron embedded in it on with the iron was turned. They are on the site of the forge and the old walls or ditches of such of the houses as had gardens only three had gardens. It appears that most of these families were evicted from these houses and two - at least - whole families emigrated to America.
- A story told by Matthew Lynch Hodgestown in connection with a member of one of the families mentioned above during the famine period. A girl named Dunne from one of these houses worked as domestic servant to Mr. King - the farmer on whose lands most of the houses were built.(continues on next page)
