- During the Penal times there was a priest living in Castletown called Father Duffy. One day he said Mass in a house in Toar and when he was coming home his horse refused to pass Lough Lum. He then twined and went home the road through Ballinagore. It is said that the Yeomen were searching his house at that particular time. They took the Chalice and threw it into a river near the house. Some local person found it and carried it back to the priest in two cabbage leaves.
