  1. Before the introduction of mechanical Toys from foreign countries home made toys was the rule more than the exception. Old spools were converted into whipping tops "te tom to toms" they were called. Rag dolls were a real work of art which the old women made. Handed down to present day boys is the art of making snares for bird and rodent alike. I have seen snares several time from alders to catch the unthinking Jack-daws snare of bull wire are made at the present day to snare rabbits and hares.
