- There are weeds of some kind in every farm and garden in this district. The most harmful weeds growing on my farm are; Praiseac, Robin-run-the-hedge, Dockens, Chicken-weed, Nettles, Clapogs, and Crowfoot. Praiseac spreads very rapidly. The Nettles, Robin-run-the-hedge and Clapogs impoverish the soil.
The cure for a burn of a Nettle is to squeeze the juice of a Docken leaf on it and it would stop the pain. If a person had a bad stomach, he should boil Nettles, strain them, and drink the juice twice every day and his stomach would be cured. Roach-lime and sweet-oil is also a cure for a burn. If a person had warts he should get rid of them by drinking the milk of a dandelion. If a person had the chickenpox, he should cure himself by drinking the juice of a chicken-weed. The cure for rheumatics is to keep a clove of garlic in his stockings and it will keep them away.- Collector
