- (continued from previous page)wooden back extending the lenght of the bed which is about 6 feet 6 inches. The matress and bed clothing are kept in the chest during the day. The side drops down at bed time and the matress etc drop with it. It is generally used by a workman if one is employed around the house, and by the children of the house in other cases.
It serves as a seat in the day time.
There were half doors on some of the houses. The half doors were to keep the hens out and allow the fresh air and sunlight in.Alacoe Dalton,
