- About a hundred years ago there was an awful disease called the Caulrea. The cure this was three straws which went from Dublin to Galway in one night. The old people said that there was a charm in it and that it would keep it away. The people passed the straws on from one to another and many people walked a long distance with these straws/ My grandfather had to go to a place called Ballycurra about a mile from where he was living.
