    glass on the lid and if it is clear the churning is finished. Before the churning is done hot water is put in, but if it is too hot it will scald the butter. Scalded butter has an ugly white appearance.
    The butter is taken out with two butter spades. The butter milk is then strained through a strainer. The butter is washed several times to remove all traces of buttermilk. If this is not done the butter will have white streaks running through it.
