- People in olden times used to eat only three meals every day. They used to eat wheaten bread. They used to cut it in quarters and bake it on a griddle or a pan. They boiled nettles and bacon for their dinners.Potato cakes were made generally in this district and some people make them yet. They are made in the following way. First the potatoes are mashed then you put in about a handful of flour and put in a pinch of salt and make it into a cake and cut it in quaters and put it on a griddle.(continues on next page)
