- St Brigid's Well (Athlone)1, Name after St Brigid.
2. Situated on outskirts of town, quite close to Flanagan's Garage. A water-pump stands a few yards from it. A large sycamore tree grows over the well and the Bower Convent is the nearest church to it being about 400 yards distant. This well is midway between the Bower Convent and the Shannon. It is not protected in any way.
5. It was never used for purpose of pilgrimage or Pattern or cures.
6. People did not visit it except to draw water for household uses.
7. No prayers etc. said there and no offerings made. 16. (a) It is alleged that "tinkers" washed clothes in this well thus defiling it, and it went dry as a result. Water in it is at present very low and people do not draw water from it now. Occasionally cleaned and bed of it lowered.(continues on next page)- Collector
