    great oarsmen:
    Tom Mulvehill of Coosan Athlone was a great oarsman. He bet every man that challenged him. O'Hara of black island, was another great oarsman, but not as good as Tom Mulvehill. Tom Mulvehill was unbeatable at single or double sculling.
    Great Swimmers:
    Billy Moore Irishtown, Athlone was a great swimmer. He beat a member of the famous Rifle Brigade out of the barracks, Athlone.
    Jack Mack, St. Columbas Terrace, Athlone was another great swimmer but not as good as Billy Moore
    Great High Jumpers:
    Willie Fox, Bethlem, Athlone was a famous high jumper. He beat Shakey a great Dublin jumper by 1 1/2 inches. All the members of the Fox family were famous high jumpers.
