- I saw a boy making a sling or a gun. He got a piece of leather and two pieces of twine each about a yard long. He cut two holes in the leather and put the twines through the hole and held them with knots. He tied the twines to a stick and it is like a gun and you could shoot a stone with it.
I often saw a snare made to trap hares or rabbits from snare wire. Tie a twine from the wire to a piece of stick. When the hare or rabbit goes into it he pulls the wire and he tightens the wire round his neck.
Long ago wren boys used to cut a turnip in the shape of a wren on St. Stephen's day. They used to stick feathers out of the turnip and it would be like a wren.- Collector
