    morning when he was able to go home and he never again went near the fort after dark.
    There is another fort in Carrobeg called Giertha. This fort is surrounded by good thick bushes. There is a deep hole in the centre of this fort. If you look closely on a fine day you will see a ring in the centre of this hallow, this is called the fairy ring. In olden days this fort was a hiding place for the Danes, but it is now left to the fairies and nobody ever tills in a fort as it is not considered lucky.
    There is another fort in Carramore, this is also surrounded by white thorn bushes and an old wall. There is no entrance to this fort except where the wall is broken down. In this fort there is supposed to be a pot of gold hidden in the earth and a black cat watching it.
    There is a story told of two men living in the neighbourhood went to look for the gold. As they were digging a small man appeared to them with a red hat on his head. He asked them what they were doing and when they told him they were looking for the gold he told them that it was dangerous that the black cat would kill them, but if they could find the gold during the Elevation of Mass the cat could not interfere with them.
