  1. Long ago teachers taught school in little houses in their own districts. Some teachers had a night school. Irish was never spoken by the master or by the pupils in former times. There were no books. The teacher had his own book but the pupils had none. The writing was done on a slate with a slate pencil. There were no copies, pens, or pencils in former times. There were no blackboards either at that time, and instead of seats they used rough wooden stools.
    Master Marlowe taught school in Castlerea mountain in his own house. There was also a
