- (continued from previous page)time of the invaders. In some time after the bell came back ringing through the air and settled on the tower again. A man named Mulligan who was living on the island buried the bell for he was afraid it would be stolen again. The secret of its hiding-place was kept for generations. About ninty years ago a descendant of the man who buried it told the secret to the parish priest. The bell was unearthed and hung on the parish church. An inscription was found on the bell which means "the bell of the travelling Saint".
